ArmInfo. Armenia and Italy intend to expand bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. On the prospects of cooperation, the Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Artur Grigoryan and Italy's Ambassador to Armenia Vincenzo del Monaco said the day before.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia, during the meeting the question was raised about the implementation by the Italian company Renko of the project for the construction of the second power unit of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant. The minister expressed hope that the construction of the block will begin in the near future.
The diplomat noted that Italy has great experience in the field of renewable energy, and there are intentions to intensify cooperation with Armenia in the field of solar energy.
It should be noted that as a result of the construction of the second unit of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant worth $ 300 million, 250 MW of additional capacity will be created. With the use of modern systems, it will be possible to produce electricity with a low cost. Siemens will implement the program in cooperation with international financial institutions. "We are ready for a quick start to the implementation of the program.In the process of construction, it is planned to create about 1 thousand new jobs.
