Vine-growing and winemaking are of strategic importance for Armenia and the state takes measures to promote small enterprises operating in this field, the RA Minister of Agriculture Artur Khachatryan stated today during a meeting with the delegation of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), headed by the Country Director Anne Kempa.
The main goal of governmental assistance is to increase the competitiveness of small businesses the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture quotes the Minister as saying.
During the meeting, the guests briefly presented the initiatives being implemented by GIZ in Armenia, including the program for the development of the private sector and technical special education and retraining in the South Caucasus. Within the framework of this program, for six years in a raw assistance has been provided in developing wine-growing and winemaking in Armenia, as well as tourism. Anne Kempa noted that in recent years a close cooperation was established between GIZ and the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia aimed at the development of winemaking. Among the results of this cooperation, Anne Kempa attributed mentioned the assistance to the Yerevan Wine Academy, as well as home wine enterprises operating in the country's regions. She assured that the programs implemented by the Society in Armenia will be continued. During the meeting, the possibilities of establishing a registry of grape seedlings was discussed, currently the Wine-growing and Winemaking Fund and the Ministry of Agriculture are engaged in the project. The solution of this task will allow registering the grape seedlings and improve the quality of the products produced in the country.
