The World Bank (WB) and the RA Ministry of Agriculture are considering the possibility of holding this October competition of digital innovations to solve problems in the agricultural sector of Armenia, in particular, related to consulting, risk management, forecasting the volume of crops, irrigation of lands, etc.
This was stated during the meeting of the Minister of Agriculture Artur Khachatryan with a delegation of the WB headed by the deputy head of the sustainable development program of the South Caucasus and Central Asia Sarah Mail.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, the parties met to discuss the programs implemented by the bank in the field of agriculture, as well as the prospects for development of cooperation. The Minister expressed hope that further cooperation will continue to develop and expand in new directions.
During the meeting, the minister presented the guests the main goals and priorities of the agro-politics of Armenia, noting that in these areas there is a need for support from the WB. A. Khachataryan said that about 90-95% of gross agricultural production is formed at the expense of small farms, increase of sown areas and improvement of the pricing mechanism. In addition, the head of the agricultural department noted that the initiative to develop organic production and significant agriculture is in the focus of attention of the department.
During the discussions it was noted that according to the World Bank, the Armenian state program of leasing of agricultural machinery was recognized as the best in the region and could serve as an example for other countries.
At the end of the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
