ArmInfo. On October 18, the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia signed two agreements aimed at re-equipping the sphere of water basin management and improving the monitoring system.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister Eric Grigoryan, French Ambassador to RA Jonathan Lakot, head of the EU member states consortium Michael Suter, representative of the French Artois-Picardi water agency Jacques Kotel and other dignitaries. According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the head of department noted the importance of cooperation with the French side, which has the best experience in the field of water management.
Ambassador Lakot, in turn, noted that environmental protection, in particular water management issues, are priority areas for cooperation between the two countries. The diplomat highly appreciated the steps taken by the Armenian side towards the implementation of the commitments undertaken by Armenia within the framework of the Paris Agreement.
It is noted that in the framework of the agreement with the Austrian Environment Agency, it is planned to purchase laboratory and monitoring equipment and facilitate the repair work of the new building. The total budget of the program will be 1 million euros, of which about 600 thousand euros will be spent on the purchase of equipment. Within the framework of the agreement with Artois Picardie, technical cooperation will be established to expand institutional capacity and integrated management of the sphere, and improve the process of collecting information on water use.
