On November 22, the Central Bank of Armenia, on the day of the 25th anniversary of the dram, put into circulation third- generation hybrid banknotes with denominations of 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 drams. According to the press service of the Central Bank of Armenia, the analogs of the old model will be in circulation along with them until they are out of circulation as they wear out. The decision on the introduction of third-generation banknotes into circulation was made at the meeting on November 9.
The great composer Komitas is depicted on the 10,000th banknote of the new sample (on the analogue of the old model Avetik Isahakyan is depicted). The well-known marine painter Hovhannes (Ivan) Aivazovsky (Martiros Saryan on the old analogue) is depicted on the 20,000th hybrid banknote. The founder of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Sv. As stated in the official statement of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, third- generation banknotes are legal tender and must be accepted at a nominal price without time limits.
Along with the new hybrid banknotes, which consist of cotton paper coated on both sides with polyester, similar notes of the 1999-2012 issue will continue to circulate. The 100- thousandth banknote was not included in the list of the 3rd generation, but the banknote issued in 2009 will be out of circulation as it is worn out.
According to the source, composite banknotes with denominations of 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 drams, which depict the poet Paruyr Sevak (instead of the ones currently circulating with the image of the poet Egishe Charents), are ninth world chess champion Tigran Petrosyan and American writer of Armenian origin William Saroyan (instead of Hovhannes Tumanyan) envisaged in circulation since December 25. It is noteworthy that the 2 thousandth banknote is being put into circulation for the first time.
