ArmInfo.Tariffs for electricity in Armenia should be diversified. This was announced during a press conference on January 9 by the Chairman of the "Consumer Consultation Center" NGO Karen Chilingaryan. He noted that this practice works very well in many countries, in particular, in neighboring Georgia.
"Earlier it was already stated that the reduction of electricity tariffs is impossible, but time showed that resources were found and the price of electricity, was reduced by 10 drams however, for low-income segments of the population", Chilingaryan said. In continuation of what has been said, the expert noted that today there are about 120 thousand low-income consumers in Armenia, some of whom are people who are not really on this list, but enjoy the benefits provided. "Conversely, there are consumers who are below the poverty line, but avoid voicing it. Therefore, I think it would be right to use diversified prices for electricity. We have repeatedly spoken about this, I don't know why the authorities are not considering this option, " the head of the NGO said. Chilingaryan expressed confidence that the new government is able to find opportunities to reduce electricity tariffs.
