ArmInfo. The development of tourism in Armenia is also important in terms of reducing poverty. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this on February 12 at a meeting of the parliament.
According to him, in 2018 the sphere registered a 10.5% growth. Its development is also important from the point of view of nature conservation. As the Prime Minister stressed, by the decision of the government, grants for the development of ecological tourism are issued to residents of the settlements adjacent to the forests. In order to attract new tourist flows, according to Nikol Pashinyan, it is necessary to maintain the image of the state, the first in the world to adopt Christianity as a state religion. The "velvet revolution" can also be a travel brand - its goals and achievements.
To note, according to the National Statistical Committee, in 2018 the number of tourists who arrived in Armenia increased by 10.5% compared to the same period in 2017. Last year, 1.651 million tourists visited Armenia compared to 1.494 million in 2017. The number of people who left Armenia for tourism purposes during the reporting period increased by 9.5% - 1.622 million people against 1.481million in 2017.
