ArmInfo.Russia allocated $ 3 million to UNDP for the development of rural tourism in Armenia. As the coordinator of the UNDP program "Integrated Rural Tourism Development " Arman Vanesyan noted, the project is being implemented with those local families who want and have the opportunity to host tourists.
"This new tourist destination will provide work for 10-15 local residents. The program's goal is to develop rural tourism in all regions of Armenia, as well as increase income opportunities for local rural communities. The total budget of the program was $ 3 million. Funds were allocated by Russia through UNDP", the project coordinator emphasized.
At the same time, Vanesyan said that the implementation of the program began in 2016. "We had a goal to create jobs in 60 villages, using tourism potential. As part of the program, we conducted an inventory of more than 920 villages. Currently 45 programs are being implemented, "he concluded. To note, the Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin and the Regional DIrector of UNDP's Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS Mirjana Spoljaric Egger visited the Gastro-yard in the village of Small Vedi to familiarize themselves with the progress of the implementation of the Integrated Rural Tourism Development Project.
