The growing amount of transactions on NASDAQ OMX Armenia prevents the Armenian dram (AMD) from depreciating. On July 20-24, the amount of the transactions on NASDAQ OMX Armenia grew by 25% (almost 9 times as much as the transactions on the interbank market, which dropped 2.5-fold). By July 24, the AMD/USD exchange rate made up 477.5 AMD/$1.
The press office of the Central Bank of Armenia has told ArmInfo that on July 20-24, the transactions on NASDAQ OMX Armenia amounted to $9.350 mln at the exchange rate of 479.64 AMD/$1. The biggest amount of the transactions was registered on Tuesday and Wednesday - $3.1 mln and $2.150 mln, respectively. On the interbank market the USD transactions amounted to $1.1 mln at the exchange rate of 480.25 AMD/$1.
On July 20-24, on the intrabank market (transactions with customers) the banks bought $62.811 mln at the average exchange rate of 478.91 AMD/$1, and sold $70.846 mln at the average exchange rate of 480.39 AMD/$1. The banks also bought 7.291 mln EUR at the average exchange rate of 519.63 AMD/1EUR, and sold 12.976 mln EUR at the average exchange rate of 525.21 AMD/1EUR. Over the same period, the banks bought 1.041 bln RUR at the average exchange rate of 8.32 AMD/1RUR, and sold 186.2 mln RUR at the rate of 8.47 AMD/1RUR.
Over the previous week (on July 13-19), the Armenian banks provided AMD loans worth 31.9 bln AMD and USD loans worth $34.8 mln. As compared to July 6-12, the AMD loans grew by 8.5%, amid 15.7% drop in USD loans.
