A collector's garden of Armenian grapes will be soon established in Armenia. The purpose of establishing a suchlike garden is to preserve the genofond of the Armenian grape varieties, Minister of Agriculture of Armenian Sergo Karapetyan said during a meeting with scientific community reps.
According to MinAgro press release, the garden will occupy 5 hectares.
The minister has informed that a working group will elaborate the 10-year-long strategy aimed at developing viniculture in case of poliravine louse infection. Karapetyan has said that viniculture is
extremely important for our economy and its development requires lots of attention and efforts.
To remind, it became known in spring 2015 that 9.24 hectares of vineyards in four villages of Armavir province were infected with poliravine louse. Necessary measures were taken to localize the
pest. Farmers, whose harvest suffered from the pest, received 3.2 mln AMD compensation. In 2014 260 thsd tons of grapes were produced in Armenia.
