ArmInfo. Public Services Regulatory Committee has provided a yearlong (Dec 9 2015- Dec 9 2016) license to the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC for import of electricity from Georgia to satisfy the domestic demand.
Earlier, Armenia imported electricity from Georgia to export it to Iran, not for domestic purposes. For instance, Yerevan Thermal Power Plant has a relevant license since 2009. Earlier, ENA CJSC applied
to the watchdog for a license to launch import of electric power from Georgia.
Areg Galstyan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia introduced the Energy Sector Development Strategy for 2036 saying the country may launch import of cheaper electric power from Georgia in particular seasons. Considering the previous mismanagement at ENA, import of less expensive electric power for domestic consumption will allow softening the consequences of the Company's former policy.
