ArmInfo. Rosselkhoznadzor, the agricultural watchdog of Russia, has banned import of raw meat and milk from Armenia due to "instable situation in the country caused by foot-and-mouth disease virus and possible risk of its penetration into the territory of Russia."
Commenting on the watchdog's decision, Nvard Arakelyan, Spokesperson for the State Food Security Service of Armenia, told ArmInfo only raw meat and milk import is banned temporarily. "Processed meat and milk products can be exported to Russia without restrictions," she said.
In addition, Arakelyan said a delegation of Rosselkhoznadzor will arrive on a fact- finding visit to Armenia shortly. She said a single case of foot and mouth disease was registered in one of the villages in Armavir region bordering with Turkey. The country reported to the World Organization for Animal Health and its partners in the Eurasian Economic Union. However, no more cases of the foot- and-mouth disease were registered in Armenia thanks to the preventive measures taken.
Arakelyan said that in the neighboring Iran and Turkey AG-VII virus was registered at animal farms. Armenia has already order the vaccine against the given subtype of the foot-and-mouth disease for a year.
