ArmInfo. Armenia and Belarus discussed the prospects of cooperation with due regard for the two countries' membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, the press office of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reports.
"On January 25, Belarusian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Igor Nazaruk met with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for International Economic Integration and Reforms Vache Gabrielyan," the source says. The meeting covered the prospects of cooperation with due regard for the two countries' membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
The Armenian side was informed of the stand of Belarus, which seeks to continue the active work in the priority areas of cooperation within the EEU, including removal of waivers and restrictions, holding of a single coordinated industrial policy, implementation of import substitution projects within the EEU and formation of an equal access to government procurement for the manufacturers from the EEU member states.
The sides also discussed the current condition and prospects of development of the two countries' relations in the trade and economic area. They considered the possible mechanisms aimed at increasing the bilateral commodity turnover.
To note, during a recent Armenian-Belarusian business meeting in Yerevan, the Ambassador of Belarus to Armenia noted that such events strengthen cooperation and create new areas for partnership. He added that both sides seek to implement a number of joint projects in both Belarus and Armenia.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in Jan-Nov 2015 the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Belarus grew by 2.4% to $37.3 mln (versus $36.4 mln in Jan-Nov 2014), with export dropping by 41.9% and import rising by 15.6%.
