ArmInfo. The year 2016 will be complicated in economic terms, ex-chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) Bagrat Asatryan said at today's press conference in Yerevan, when commenting on the economic events in the light of global developments. "It is senseless to forecast anything. Nevertheless, everyone understands that the year 2016 will be complicated from the economic point of view," the expert said.
He said that the macroeconomic indices publicized by the Armenian Government are ridiculous and the calculation scheme is not clear. "The agrarian sector has experienced 11.7% growth, whereas in terms of commodity turnover the indices of the same sector have dropped by 12.2%. Or let us look at construction, which has demonstrated 0.3% rise and has dropped by 8.2% in terms of commodity turnover at the same time," Asatryan stressed, noting that the Government has turned the setback into progress and development.
The expert pointed out that the Government faces 4 major problems hampering the country's economic development. The matter concerns poverty, migration, monopoly and corruption. "The specified problems are nothing new. They will not disappear until the Government takes steps or works out mechanisms to liquidate them," Asatryan said.
To note, the WB and the IMF forecast economic growth slowdown to 2.2% in Armenia for 2016, while the EBRD forecasts even 2%. The Central Bank of Armenia expects the GDP growth to slow down to 1.6- 2.7% in 2016. The Armenian state budget of 2016 fixes the target GDP growth at 2.2%.
