ArmInfo. In Jan 2016 the consumer market of Armenia saw 2.2% inflation due to the 4.5% growth in food prices (alcohol and tobacco inclusive). Alcohol and tobacco exclusive, the food prices rose by 5%. The National Statistics Service of Armenia has told ArmInfo that the non-food items dropped in price by 0.6%, and the tariffs of services grew by 0.4%.
As compared to Jan 2015, the consumer prices dropped by 0.4%, with the food prices (alcohol and tobacco inclusive) falling by 3.6%, non-food items rising in price 1.7% and tariffs of services growing by 3.3%.
On the food market vegetables and potatoes grew in price by 31.5% in Jan 2016 (up 9.2% versus Jan 2015), fruits rose in price by 8.5% (down 19.9% versus Jan 2015), eggs grew in price by 8.3% (down 16.9% versus Jan 2015). In 2016, fruits, vegetables and potatoes rose by a total of 22.9% in price. As their share in the consumer basket is 8.99%, their impact on the consumer price growth was 2 pct points.
In Jan 2016 versus Jan 2015, the average egg price in the republic fell by 16.9% (up 8.3% versus Dec 2015).
In Jan 2016 versus Jan 2015, the animal fat and vegetable oil dropped in price by 8.7% (up 0.6% versus Dec 2015). Coffee, cocoa, dairy, granulated sugar rose in price by 0.1-0.2% in Jan 2016
Meat products fell in price by 5.5% in Jan 2016 versus Jan 2015 (down 0.1% versus Dec 2015).
Fish products, confectionary and soft drinks dropped in price by 0.3%, while alcohol and cigarettes fell in price by 0.1% in Jan 2016.
On the non-food market, clothes and knitwear fell in price by 3.5%, footwear - by 2.7%, jewelry - by 1,5%, personal use items - by 1%, domestic appliances - by 0.6%, detergents - by 0.4%, furniture - by 0.1%. Meanwhile, construction materials grew in price by 0.1%, stationery - by 0.1%, carpets - by 0.4%, medicaments - by 0.5%, kitchen implements - by 0.7%, textile - by 0.9%, cosmetics - by 2.2%, pieces of art - by 2.4%, and the prices of fuel and gardening items underwent no changes.
In Jan 2016 the prices of petroleum and diesel fuel fell by 4.8% and 6%, respectively (down 15.1% and 16.3% versus Dec 2015).
As regards tariffs of services, the tariffs of medical services grew by 0.7%, culture services - by 0.8%, legal and banking services - by 0.9%, utilities - by 1%, recreation services - by 1.1%. Meanwhile, the tariffs of transport services fell by 1% (air tickets dropped in price by 4.6%), and communication services dropped in price by 1%.
