ArmInfo. Iran may several-fold increase supply of gas to Armenia in case of necessity, economist and former lawmaker Vardan Bostanjyan told at a press conference on February 17.
"Iran has gas and a task to sell this good. It does not matter where to export gas-to European countries or to Armenia. In case of Armenia there are no problems with transportation", he noted.
To recall, Head of the National Iranian Gas Exports Co Ali-Reza Kameli saidn on February 7 that Iran is considering the possibility of increasing gas exports to Armenia several fold, as part of construction of a new electricity transmission line between the two countries. Currently Iran daily exports around 1 mln cubic meters of gas to Armenia. Iran-Armenia gas pipeline was opened in 2007.
On August 9, 2015, Iran and Armenia signed a contract for the construction of the third power transmission line that will enable the two countries to exchange more electricity. The contract total cost is 107.9 EUR million. Iran aims connecting to power systems of Georgia and Russia with the help of this project. The power lines will extend 275km. After construction of the third line, with a capacity of 400 KW, it will be easier to supply Armenian electricity in exchange of Iranian gas supplied to Yerevan Thermal Power Plant.
