Armenian Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan and Belarusian Deputy Minister of Energy Mikhail Mikhadyuk have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in peaceful use of atomic energy. The document was signed on Feb 19, during the 12th meeting of the Armenian-Belarusian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
Armenian Minister of Economy Karen Chshmarityan said that promotion of cooperation in power engineering, agriculture and transport play a serious role in development of economic relations between Armenia and Belarus. Among the achievements fixed at the Intergovernmental Commission's meeting, the minister pointed out the signing of a protocol that implies holding in Armenia an Armenian-Belarusian forum on innovations and IT.
For his part, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Energy Mikhail Mikhadyuk said that within the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia's results in the foreign economic indices of Belarus are the best. "The percentage of the foreign trade turnover has dropped, but the quantitative indicators have considerably grown due to the cooperation of our republics within the EEU," he stressed.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in Jan-Dec 2015, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Belarus dropped by 2% as compared to Jan-Dec 2014, having amounted to $39.3 million. Export totaled $5.5 mln (down 39.6% versus 2014) and import made up $33.8 mln (up 8.9% versus 2014).
