ArmInfo. Poland is ready to invest in the field of renewable energy in Armenia, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia Hayk Harutyunyan stated on the sidelines of the fifth meeting of the Armenian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
According to him the Polish side has expressed interest in implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy particularly use of solar and wind power. Harutyunyan stated that the expenses on its production have curtailed in the recent period. "Taking into consideration the climate conditions and the significant reduction of expenses for getting one Kw of power as well as the conditions offered by the Armenian side the investments in the field have become beneficial", the deputy minister stated.
Hayk Harutyunyan informed that one Polish company, which plans to construct wind stations in Armenia, has been measuring the wind resources in mountainous areas of Sisian region for already more than two years. At the same time as the deputy minister explained the state will not have financial participation in the project. "Armenia has huge resources in wind energy. According to our forecasts till 2020 wind power stations with a capacity of at least 200 MW will be built in Armenia", he stated. According to him if this year the Polish company presents the project and receives license on construction a new wind power station will operate in Armenia in 2-3 years.
The deputy minister noted that certain companies from Italy, Spain and China also show interest in cooperation in the field of renewable energy in Armenia. To note, according to the experts' estimation development of alternative sources of energy is a perspective sector for electricity production in Armenia.
Lori 1 Wind Farm is the first wind farm in Armenia located along the Bazum Mountains at Pushkin Pass in Lori, Armenia. The wind farm consists of four 660-kW wind turbines and has a capacity of 2.64 MW. The second wind power plant-Arats is located in the south of Armenia and received license in March 2015. Its capacity is only 285 KW. However, the fact that another wind station has been built in Armenia is positive, the deputy minister stated.
