ArmInfo. In 2016 Ucom Telecommunications Company will direct more than 30 bln AMD to modification of network and 15-20 bln of these funds have already been invested; Ucom CEO Hayk Yesayan informed answering to ArmInfo's question.
As Yesayan informed Ucom is working in several directions currently. "The first product that we are going to introduce relates to servicing of mobile network: Upay payment system", Yesayan stressed.
According to Yesayan television field will also undergo innovations. "Ucom was the first in Armenia to introduce IP television. We will continue improving this service. Innovations will be done in Mobile television sector as well", he informed adding that the new quality of service will be available for the consumers in the upcoming months.
Answering to the question about introducing 4G/LTE system by the company Yesayan informed that on the current stage the system is being checked in test mode. "We are very satisfied with the results of testing", he stated. Due to implementation of new aggregative technologies speed of 300Mbit and more will be achieved. LTE/4G network base stations will be built both in Yerevan and in the regions. As the CEO informed it is planned to use several frequencies to reach high speeds. "This is a new trend of mobile network and not all the phones support this type of connection, however we are already working towards introducing these technologies so that our subscribers do not drop behind of the international tendencies", he noted. At the same time as Yesayan noted 3G network is being expanded and 900 base stations are being modified. According to the CEO the company plans to reach covering of the whole territory of Armenia within 2 years.
To note, Ucom (Universal Communications) started to build Internet, IP television and landline digital telephony through a single broadband connection since 2009. The company has built up the first FTTH (Fiber to the home) Network in Armenia providing convergent Triple play services including Internet, IPTV and fixed line telephony. Ucom with the support of Ericsson Company is working on development of 4G/LTE network throughout the territory of Armenia. In 2015 UCom purchased 100% of shares of Orange Armenia and started providing mobile services. On August 20 2015, by the decision of the Public Services Regulatory Committee of Armenia approved the sale of 100% of Orange Armenia's stake to Ucom Company.
