ArmInfo. In Jan-Apr 2016, the services sector in Armenia grew by 9.3% versus Jan-Apr 2015, and totaled 368 bln AMD ($756.3 mln) versus 3.1% growth a year before. Amid the positive year-over-year dynamics, the revenues of the sector dropped by 2.6% to 96.4 bln AMD ($200.3 mln) in April 2016 versus 11.4% growth in March.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in Jan-Apr 2016 versus Jan-Apr 2015 services on the property market grew by 6.8% (versus 6.2% decline a year before), transport services grew by 28.6% versus 29.6% decline; information and communication services grew by 2.5% (versus 4.3% decline a year before). In the meantime, services in the education sector dropped by 1.4% (versus 2.4% decline a year before) and those in the healthcare sector dropped by 1.2% (versus the previous 7.4% decline).
The financial sector took the lead in terms of services, which amounted to 77.1 bln AMD (20.9% of the total amount), with the major part of the services provided by the banks. The following sectors ranked next: culture and recreation - 73.3 bln AMD (19.9% of the total amount); information and communication - 66.9 bln AMD (18.2%); transport - 49.2 bln AMD (13.4%); public catering and tourism - 19.4 bln AMD (5.3%).
In Jan-Apr 2016, the average AMD/USD exchange rate was 486.82 AMD/$1, and in April alone - 481.27 AMD/$1 versus 476.46 AMD/$1 in Jan-Apr 2015 and 474.07 AMD/$1 in April 2015.
