ArmInfo. Within the World Bank's loan program on the Electricity Transmission Network Improvement Project (ETNIP) for Armenia an agreement has been signed on
construction of a new substation of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 220 kW. AB SUBSTATIONS AND COBRA INSTALACIONES Y SERVICIOS. A (Sweden/Spain) is the general contractor of the project.
The press-service of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia has told ArmInfo, that the general contractor was chosen based on an international tender. The program envisages construction of a new substation of Yerevan Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 220kW. The cost of the agreement is 11.3 mln USD, 4.7 mln EUR and 6.9 mln Swedish krona. It is planned to finish the construction within 17 months.
To note, the Electricity Transmission Network Improvement Project (ETNIP) for Armenia is estimated at 69.16 mln USD, the World Bank will provide US$52 million loan, the Armenian government will allocate the rest sum. The loan will be provided via International Bank for Reconstruction and Development with a 14.5-year grace period and the total repayment term of 25 years. The first of the stations
Ashnak substation was commissioned in 1983 and has undergone no major rehabilitation since then. It serves around 120 thousand consumers- population and enterprises. Rehabilitation of the substation of the Yerevan Thermal Power Center (YTPC), which accounts for 20 percent of total annual electricity generation in Armenia will help reduce the incidence of equipment failures. The substation was commissioned in 1965, and has not been rehabilitated since then. Therefore, it is
essential for ensuring adequate and low-cost electricity supply to all of the 1,040,000 electricity consumers in the country. Under the second component - improvement of the power system management - establishment of a back-up dispatch center is envisaged which will allow improving the management of the power system.
