ArmInfo. Electric power market of Armenia will be liberalized; the relevant draft was put to agenda of the Armenian government's discussion to be held on August 4.
According to the draft the implementation of the project will allow to create conditions for activation of interstate trade as well. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in cooperation with Public Services Regulation Commission will be instructed to ensure liberalization of the electric power market of Armenia till May 30 2017 and develop a program of events for development of interstate trade. The program should include amendments to the Law "On Energy". Development of the document is one of the requirements of the European Union and should not contradict to Armenia's obligations in the Eurasian Economic Union. The main goal of the new program should become increase of efficiency in the electric power sector of the country.
To note, earlier Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan said about possibility of partial liberalization of the electric power market of Armenia. As of today electric power market of Armenia is too monopolized regulated by the Public Services Regulation Commission.
