ArmInfo. Import of sugar to Armenia grew by 82.3% y-o-y in the first half of 2016 (versus 45% decline in previous year).
According to the report of the Armenia's Customs Service, in the first half of 2016 59.4 thousand tons of sugar was imported versus 32.6 thousand tons in 2015. In monetary terms the supplies grew from 13.8 million dollars to 21.5 million dollars in 2016. Brazil is the main importer of sugar to Armenia (97.4%).
According to the report of the Armenia's Customs Service as of H1 2016 no export of sugar was registered, while in previous year export totaled 32 kg and sugar was fully exported to Georgia.
To note for comparison, that as of year-end 2015 Armenia declined amounts of imported sugar by 38.5% to 61.7 thousand tons. In monetary terms import declined by 45.2% to 25 million dollars in 2015. At the same time, the sugar export in monetary terms was almost reduced by 25% to 150.1 tons in 2015, in monetary terms export of sugar declined by 36.5% to 77.8 million dollars.
To note, "Alex-Grig" company, owned by the Armenian oligarch, MP Samvel Aleksnayan, imports 99% of sugar.
