ArmInfo. The Armenian fashion industry will demonstrate its achievements at the Light Industry International Trade Show at Expo Center Yerevan on October 17-19. The project is being held in Armenia for the first time.
The organizers say that the goal of the Trade Show is to foster development of light industry, study the potential of regional cooperation, as well as to reveal new sales markets and to form partner relations with potential partners. The event will feature the entire production chain in the light industry sector, including ready-made clothes, leather goods, headwear, accessories, etc. The event will include master classes involving designers and lecturers from Russia, exhibitions, as well as showcase of the collections of three individual designers and the products of over 20 local manufacturers of clothes and leather goods.
The event is organized by Atex Fashion Center, Signum Company, and Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the support of the Armenian Ministry of Economic Development and Investments, Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen, as well as light industry sector employers. Companies representing the relevant sector in Russia, Georgia, Belarus, India, Iran, and Europe are expected to attend the event.
According to the Armenian Ministry of Economic Development and Investments light industry sector in Armenia increased significantly within the first 8 months of 2016: cloth production increased 32%, shoes and leather items - 26%. Textile production fell 6%. At the same time, export in the light industry sector increased 60%, with export of Armenian shoes alone growing 126%. Nevertheless, the production is exported mostly to Europe, which independent experts explain with the production in line with tolling schemes. In the meantime, the Ministry of says that the export of the Armenian light industry is re-orientating from European to Russian market.
