ArmInfo. A breakthrough in the Armenian economy needs three things: profound political and economic reforms; an ambitious development program; and an opportunity to attract foreign investments, Vartan Oskanian, Head of the Solidarity Party, told reporters on November 10.
He noted that the new prime minister of Armenia has already started positive steps to that end, but they are not enough. "For instance, I see some contradictions between the outlined actions and the new Tax Code. Economy is a field, where it is hard to achieve results by means of partial approaches. At the same time, no ambitious development program can be implemented in this field without comprehensive and deep approach. Moreover, economic reforms without political ones are doomed to failure. Political monopoly is greater evil and more dangerous than adversary's bullet", Oskanian considers.
The leader of Solidarity Party is convinced that Armenia today needs economic growth and development, opportunities for creating job places and raising population's living standard via an economic breakthrough.
"We are in economic war and if we lose it we will be engaged in military operations, that is why it is necessary to do everything possible to reach breakthrough in economic field and not to attempt to break the enemy front. Armenia badly needs foreign investments-this is a difficult task but possible one. If necessary conditions are created large investments may be attracted", Oskanian noted.
According to him in case of political reforms and holding fair elections several millions dollars from US "Millennium Challenges" could be attracted, while if new framework agreement is signed with the EU large funds could be involved from donor countries. "We should work to that end. I am ready to invest all my resources for solving these problems, as well as every member of Solidarity party does" Oskanian summarized.
