ArmInfo. Armenian diamond processing companies representatives think there can be problems during producing extension related to teaching and retrain qualified experts, Ministry of Economic Development and Investments stated on April 14 , discussed the development issues of the sphere. They presented the Minister their chances to wide extents of stock sale, also the possibilities of purchasing alternative material.
The head of the department Suren Karayan suggested the participants of the meetings to learn the aspects of autonomous power of the companies, autonomous arrangement, as well as the possibilities of inter state cooperation.
To note, in 2016, Armenia increased diamond exports by 77.9% following 40.3% decrease in 2015 and 21% decrease in 2014. Imports also experienced positive dynamics - 72.6% growth in quantitative terms (versus 30% decline in 2015 and 15% decline in 2014).
As the experts of the market think, Armenia started to flourish in 90s and 2000s in lapidary industry from zero. Until the middle of previous decade 100 major and average lapidary companies worked on materials for conversion, delivered by De Beers and Alrosa Russian Company. Related to the strengthening of National currency in 2005-2008, brilliant producing became unprofitable. Shorghakn biggest company of the company stopped work, which belonged to major Russian-Israel businessman Lev Levaev, who had to sale the company.
After the official statement of Nerses Eritsyan, Economy Minister then, Armenia does not consider the lapidary industry to be priority and does not want to develop it, the producing level decreased to zero, and the majority of qualified experts left the country creating deficit of the specialists. New Government does not agree with that. Moreover, the Government thinks that the country has all the chances for the renewal of the field.
