ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received on October 5 the newly appointed commissar for trade of the United Kingdom in Armenia, MP Mark Prechard. As the press service of the executive body of Armenia told ArmInfo, Karapetyan congratulated Pritchard with a new post, noted that the Government of Armenia has high hopes for its activity in terms of development of the Armenian-British trade and economic relations and giving them a new impetus.
The head of the Cabinet stressed that there is a great potential for increasing trade between the two countries, which is currently not fully engaged. Karapetyan said that the government is carrying out large- scale reforms in the economy and other spheres. At the same time, as the prime minister noted, Armenia can offer favorable conditions for British capital, including in terms of entering the Eurasian and Iranian markets.
In his turn, Mark Pritchard noted that his country is interested in expanding economic cooperation with Armenia and its goal is to see material tangible results during the term of office.
The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the improvement of bilateral trade regimes, the possibilities of using the Yerevan-London flight, the prospects for implementing programs in energy, tourism, road and reservoir construction, education and healthcare and others.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in January-August of 2017 the trade turnover between Armenia and the United Kingdom amounted to $ 23,201.6 million, with an annual growth of 37.7%. At the same time, exports increased 5 times to $ 3,429.9 million, and imports by 22.4% to $ 19,771.1 million.
