ArmInfo. In 2018 $ 81mln will be invested in the sphere of use of clean drinking water in Yerevan. In addition, it is planned to complete the program to ensure uninterrupted water supply worth 3 billion AMD in Yerevan's Haghtanak and Silikyan districts. Arsen Harutyunyan, chairman of the State Water Management Committee of Armenia, told ArmInfo that the results of the programs are expected to reduce losses in the system and restore water supply.
According to Harutyunyan, within the framework of the $ 81 million program, it is planned to solve the issue of water supply to a number of communities of the country that have remained outside the coverage of water supply system operators (today there are 560, ed.). In some of them - in 15 communities, as the head of Water Recourses noted, the water supply system has already been restored, and it will soon be transferred to the management of the company "Veolia Djur".
Solving the issue with the remaining 545 communities will not be easy. As noted by Harutyunyan, only to restore water supply in these communities will require 250-300 million EUR. However, the issue is not only the restoration of water supply, since, it is desirable to meet international standards, it is also necessary to solve the issue of water disposal. "Even if we turn to international lending institutions with a question, they will require an integrated solution to the problem, which means an investment of about 700 million euros. With this in mind, the government plans to ensure the transition of all 560 communities to the management of a single operator only in stages," said Mr. Aryutyan.
