ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan expressed concern at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on February 8 with an extremely low level of use of irrigated lands on the territory of the republic.
In particular, according to the head of the government, only in Ararat valley the fixed area of irrigated lands is about 24 thousand hectares. "These lands are the property of individuals or legal entities, and the current legislation does not provide for clear, regulated mechanisms to stimulate land use, prosecution for non-use of land, as well as termination of property rights in respect of land real estate," he said.
In this regard, the prime minister instructed to jointly develop, within a month, the Armenian government's machinery to present proposals for stimulating the use of irrigated agricultural lands, clearly touching upon the mechanisms for applying the measures of responsibility, as well as clarifying the procedures for suspending the rights to the land plot. "In fact, this issue is problematic, as we make various efforts and spend money to increase the area of irrigated land, while the available land plots have been left out of this process," Karen Karapetyan explained.
