ArmInfo. The Armenian  government approved the "Program for the development of wheat  production in spring sowing, green and yellow peas, spring barley,  maize, alfalfa and sainfoins for 2018". The corresponding decision  was approved at a Cabinet meeting on February 22.  Deputy Agriculture  Minister Robert Makaryan stated that 746 million 570 thousand AMD are  to be allocated from the funds of the "Seed Agency" SNCO for the  implementation of the program. Of these, 721 million 540 AMD will be  directed for the purchase of 2,141.5 tons of seeds of these crops,  and the remaining 25 million AMD for the organization of loading and  unloading operations.

According to the draft law project, the republic is not able to fully  meet the needs of farmers in high-quality seeds, as the level of  self-sufficiency in grain and bean crops in the country is low, and  prices are not very affordable. The purpose of the program is to  purchase up to 150 tons of seeds of the first reproduction of spring  wheat, up to 10 tons of peas, up to 7.5 tons of yellow peas, up to  1664 tons of seeds for the first reproduction of spring barley, up to  20 tons of maize, up to 50 tons of alfalfa and 240 tons of seeds  espartes for their further transfer to land users at a subsidized  price. The program will be implemented by three companies selected on  a competitive basis "CJSC" Gyumri Selective Station "undertook to  import seeds up to 164 tons, Russian LLC" Trading House "Donskoy  Agrokhim Center" - up to 937.5t, and LLC "Semen Stavropol" - up to  1040 tons.
