ArmInfo. Armenian Minister of Finance Atom Janjugazian received a delegation led by Martin Grothe, Senior Economist on Tax Policy of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The parties discussed issues related to the improvement of tax administration and tax policy.
In particular, as reported by the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Finance, during the meeting, issues related to the implementation of the tax policy in the field of property tax, profit tax and income tax, as well as the provision of tax incentives.
According to the Minister of Finance, as part of the tax reforms, it is necessary to diagnose the problems of the system and give them a fair and effective solution. Atom Janjugazyan highly appreciated the cooperation with the IMF and expressed the hope that it will help develop the Armenian economy and implement effective fiscal policy.
Martin Grote, in turn, stressed the importance of maintaining the principle of equality and justice in the processes carried out in the tax sphere. He also touched upon the simplification of the system, which will reduce the opportunity to avoid the fulfillment of tax obligations.
In early June, ex-Minister of Finance Vardan Aramyan in an interview with the correspondent. ArmInfo informed that representatives of the IMF in the framework of promoting economic growth of the RA will once again study, "rethink" the tax policy of the republic. It was with the technical assistance of the IMF that Armenia developed the Tax Code, and also revised the country's fiscal rules. The other day, in an interview with ArmInfo, Armenian Deputy Finance Minister Arman Poghosyan, presenting possible scenarios for tax reforms, noted that these are only approximate calculations, and after an exchange of ideas with the IMF's technical assistance group, there may be very interesting proposals. "We listen to the opinions of our international partners, actively use their experience and recommendations, since such systemic changes are not implemented in isolation and without consultations with international partners, in particular donor organizations that simultaneously provide budgetary assistance to Armenia, but I assure you that we are not limited in their decisions - both then and today we will be guided by the priorities and interests of our country, "he said.
