ArmInfo. The first GLONASS server center opened in Armenia.
As Armenian Deputy Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Armen Arzumanyan told reporters, this is a very important project for Armenia, and the antenna system and server center will be the first of its kind in the region. The deputy minister added that the system from antennas and server center will allow collecting data from GLONASS satellites and maintaining an accurate map of Armenia. The project was implemented at the expense of the Federal Agency Roskosmos. In turn, according to Deputy Director General of Roscosmos GC Sergey Saveliev, now the high-resolution map of Armenia will become available to GLONASS users. It will be able to use for free telecom operators, agronomists, drivers and many others.
Space technology can be used in dozens of peaceful purposes. "We are pleased that our project will help the residents and the economy of Armenia," said Saveliev, adding that Armenian specialists who have undergone the necessary training will serve the center. Back in October 2017, ArmInfo reported that Armenia, with the assistance of the State Space Corporation Roscosmos, intends to take an active part in the implementation of various space programs. To a large extent, this should be helped by a long-term (until 2020) cooperation program with Roscosmos, which includes launching a communications satellite, upgrading the Bureau of Astrophysical Observatory, locating GLONASS stations in the country and preparing to launch the first Armenian cosmonaut.
