ArmInfo. The unemployment rate in Armenia, calculated using the new methodology, declined slightly in the Q3 of 2018 - to 20.1% from 20.2% in the Q2. A year earlier, in the third quarter of 2017, the unemployment rate in Armenia was 19.9%. According to the RA Statistics Committee, the new calculation method does not take into account those employed in the household.
According to the source, on January 1, 2019 in search of work, there were 81.7 thousand people, with an y- o-y decline of 5%. Of this number, 54.1 thousand women turned out (with an y-o-y decline of 4.3%), and 27.6 thousand men (with an y-o-y decline of 6.4%). Number of officially registered unemployed in Armenia in January-December 2018 amounted to 67.7 thousand, which is 11.7% lower than a year ago. According to statistical data on January 1, 2019. 865 citizens were employed (y-o-y growth of 2.2%) or 1.1% of the total number of job seekers.
As of January 1, 2019, the number of applications from employers was 2,567 (an y-o-y growth of 46.9%) with a load of 1 vacant seat of 32 people (decline of 34.7% per annum).
By the number of unemployed as of January 1, 2019, the leadership is held by Shirak region - 12.1 thousand citizens, followed by the capital - 9.1 thousand, Lori region - 9 thousand, Kotayk region - 6.9 thousand, and the top five is Armavir region with the number of unemployed at 5.8 thousand people
According to the forecast of the Central Bank of Armenia, updated in November 2018, the unemployment rate for 2018 was revised from the previous 16.6% to 16.3% (calculated according to the old methodology). In the medium term, the Central Bank expects an annual reduction in the unemployment rate by 0.1-0.2 percentage points - to 15.8%. According to the World Bank's forecasts, the unemployment rate in Armenia in 2018 will be 18.1%, and the poverty level (at purchasing power parity - PPP of $ 5.5) will be 38%, and based on PPP of $ 3.2 will be 9.8%.
