ArmInfo.Armenia will join the Europe-Armenia-Iran-Qatar regional telecommunications project. The Memorandum on regional cooperation was signed yesterday in Tehran during the visit of the Armenian delegation headed by the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Iran.
On behalf of Armenia, the Memorandum was signed by UCOM co-founder Alexander Yesayan, on behalf of Iran - CEO of Iranian Telecommunication Company Majid Sadri, on behalf of Qatar - President of the largest company in the Gulf region, GULF Bridge International Abdulla Al Rwaili.
According to the UCOM company's a statement, the largest telecommunication companies in Armenia, Iran and Qatar will cooperate in the implementation of a joint project to create transit Internet communication between the states of the region. "Through this program, a transit link will be created connecting the countries of the Persian Gulf and Asia with Europe. Joining such an ambitious project, Armenia actually emphasizes the position of the regional leader in the field of information technology. The new channel will become an alternative to today's maritime route, which will actually pass through Armenia bypassing Azerbaijan and Turkey. By the way, Turkey and Azerbaijan fought for the project. This is not only a business, but also a strategic program related to telecommunications security ", Alexander Yesayan noted.
To note, during the visit to Tehran, Alexander Yesayan met with the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Iran, Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi. During the meeting, at which Alexander Yesayan acted as a board member of World Information Technology and Service Alliance (WITSA), President of Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE) and WCIT 2019 IT international congress. The invitation of the Armenian side to Iranian companies to participate in the WCIT 2019 sceduled in Yerevan on October 6-9, 2019, was confirmed. An Iranian official, expressing gratitude for the invitation, announced the intentions of Iranian companies to take part in it.
