ArmInfo. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia initiated the formation of an agricultural exchange, the main function of which will be the organization of logistics for the sale of products based on supply and demand. This was announced during a press conference on April 15 by the acting Minister of Agriculture Gegham Gevorgyan.
According to him, logistic centers will be created in the regions of Armenia, where farmers will be able to save crop surplus, after which, out of season, they will sell at high prices. "It will be a large farm equipped with refrigerators, scales, appropriate infrastructure," acting the minister said. Gevorgyan explained that the exchange is not going to assume the functions of a single exporter, but will become a kind of platform for ensuring communication between exporters and farms, as well as shops, in order to gradually reduce the number of intermediary links.
The formation of the exchange, according to the official, will contribute to the formation of supply and diversification of export markets. "We are very vulnerable to external factors, therefore, it is extremely unacceptable for us to depend on one market, one company, etc. Therefore, we must go for strategic changes in order to get out of this situation, "he stressed. Gevorgyan found it difficult to talk about time, but noted that he hopes to create appropriate infrastructures this year.
