The forum aims to stimulate investment in Armenia and other countries in the region for the benefit of a sustainable development of the business environment that provides environmental and social results. The forum was attended by about 150 international and local financial organizations.
In a conversation with journalists on the fields of the forum, Minister of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia Eric Grigoryan noted that many problems related to the transition to green technologies can be solved if financing and investments are consonant with the principles of sustainable development, in particular social responsibility and environmental protection.
"In the issue of transition to clean technologies, the Organisation for Economic Co- operation and Development (OECD) is currently conducting the necessary assessment of financial resources for adapting Armenia to climate change," he said, noting that similar work had already been done for Georgia and Kazakhstan.
In this vein, he added that enormous resources are required for the transition of Armenia to clean technologies. <At the moment, we already have a temperature increase of 1.3 degrees, which implies the need to change the processes in the daily activities of the business sector, because the norms are already changing in a number of areas, in particular energy, urban planning, irrigation, forest management, etc. In turn, UNDP investment consultant Vahagn Voskanyan noted that according to preliminary estimates for Europe, about $ 100 billion would be required for all of these goals, and the total amount of necessary investments reaches $ 500 billion. Speaking about the forum, the expert stressed that the event is being held to bring together representatives of the public and private sectors around global problems, in particular those related to climate warming, and others. UNDP, in turn, said he intends to provide mechanisms to solve these problems. , in particular, through the creation of funds that can raise funds for these purposes.
