Raymond Vahan Damadian is an American scientist and inventor of Armenian origin, one of the founders of the magnetic resonance scanning machine (MRI). He was born in 1936 in New York. The invention of MRI in July 1977 was a revolutionary and monumental event in the development of medicine in the United States, and Damadian was one of the scientists who worked on the development of this machine. However, in 2003, the Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to another scientist, Peter Mansfield and Paul Lauterbur, for their discoveries and achievements related to MRI.
