ArmInfo.Armenian Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan refrains from indicating how much a minimum wage will cost the State treasury
As he pointed out in an interview with journalists on July 11, everything will depend on whether the increase in government officials will affect. Earlier, in June of this year the government of Armenia, after a 4-year hiatus, went on increasing the minimum wage. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft decision on amending the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On the minimum monthly salary", which provides for increasing the minimum wages from the current 55 thousand to 68 thousand drams.
According to the project, the base salary, on the basis of which the salary of most state employees is calculated, will not change, but the salary of 45 thousand private sector employees and 35 thousand civil servants who receive the minimum salary will be changed. Their salary will increase by about 23-24%.
According to the chief financier of Armenia, today it is premature to judge the amount of additional social commitment for the state budget due to the increase in the minimum wage. "Everything will depend on the form in which the bill will be adopted," he said. Thus, according to the minister, during the mechanical revision of the minimum wage, which would have spread to the base salary of public officials, it would be possible to talk about additional expenses in the amount of 69 billion drams. But, if it concerned only those who receive the minimum wage, then it may be a question of about 6 billion drams.
