ArmInfo. General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia (GDCA) prepared a legislative initiative on the abolition of the so-called "air fees" for new air carriers. This is necessary to attract more airlines to Armenia, and especially so-called. <low-cost airlines>, due to the fact that the duty "on air" introduced many years ago in the country is included in the price of air tickets and increases the general price level for passenger air services.
As the head of GDCA Tatevik Revazyan said at a press conference, in the same vein, the GDCA has worked with the management of Zvartnots Airport on the possibility of lowering the prices for servicing air carriers. "We have repeatedly said that one of the main obstacles to the entry of new companies into the Armenian air transportation market is the high tariffs of the Zvartnots airport itself, as well as the" air price "itself. Taking into account that in Europe, the average cost of a low-cost airline ticket is about 40 euros, and the air price is 20 euros, which leads to a 50% increase in the price of tickets. For "low-cost airlines", this is a serious problem.>, she explained.
In continuation of the above, Revazyan demonstrated written appeals of Ryanair and Wizz Air, which state that the latter are ready to enter the Armenian market in case of a discount from the airport "Zvartnots". At the same time, the head of GDCA noted that she did not know how much tariffs for new players would be reduced, but stressed that the Department controls this process.
According to Revazyan, the GDCA will submit a legislative initiative to exclude the "air" duty for consideration by the government after a certain "important meeting" to be held on July 31. What a meeting and with whom Revazian refused to share with journalists.
To note, Ryanair is Europe's largest low cost airline (Ireland). Ryanair serves over 1600 destinations between 180 airports in 28 European countries and Morocco, making more than 1600 flights per day.
Wizz Air is a Hungarian low-cost airline headquartered in Vechese. The airline was established in September 2003.The main investor was the American private company Indigo Partners. specializing in investment in transport. The airline carries more than 50 million passengers a year.
