ArmInfo. Kotayk region has the potential to restore the status of a health tourism center, Susanna Safaryan, Head of the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia expressed such an opinion during panel discussions at the investment forum ''My Step for Kotayk Region'' in Tsaghkadzor.
She noted that even in Soviet times, health tourism was developed in the Kotayk region, in particular from the point of view of the functioning of sanatoriums in the region, in cities such as Tsaghkadzor, Garni, Arzni, Aghveran, Hankavan and others.
''We should remember the strengths of the region. Instead of creating something new, we can restore the existing potential, "she said. In this regard, Safaryan emphasized that there is a need to take an inventory in order to understand what condition these facilities are in and what needs to be done to restore them. "And through the development of infrastructures and improving the quality of services, we can make Kotayk an area with concrete proposals," the head of the Tourism Committee emphasized. Safaryan also noted that after taking the inventory, it is necessary to prepare projects and present them to investors.
To note, according to an online survey of the TurStat Analytical Agency, conducted by January 20, 2019, the first five CIS resorts for winter holidays included resorts in Armenia (Tsaghkadzor), Belarus (Logoisk and Silichi), Kazakhstan (Shymbulak), Azerbaijan (Shahdag and Tufandag), and Kyrgyzstan (Karakol). According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in the first half of 2019, 770,055 tourists visited Armenia, which is 12.3% more than the indicator a year ago.
