ArmInfo. The salary of a civil servants will be reviewed. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan stated this on September 11 during a government hour in parliament, answering the MP's question about increasing teachers' salaries next year.
According to him, the 10% increase in teachers' salaries, which entered into force in September 2019, will remain in force in 2020. In addition, as Avinyan pointed out, a general increase in the salaries of all civil servants is expected. The Deputy Prime Minister found it difficult to say how much it would be possible to raise salaries, but assured that as part of the development of a public service reform strategy, a global revision of cash rewards is planned.
A week earlier, the government of Armenia at the meeting decided to allocate 1 billion 665 million 675 thousand drams to increase teachers' salaries. The funds will be used to increase the wage of 38 thousand teachers of educational institutions by 10%.
"The increase in teachers' salaries was envisaged by the draft state budget for 2020, but given the increase in tax revenues to the state budget, it was decided to increase the salaries of teachers from September 1," Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan noted. According to him, other work is also being done to increase the productivity of the system, introduce a new testing system and the relationship of the salary level with the result.
It is also planned introduce such a financing formula for schools that the minimum wage increases to 108 thousand drams (currently it is less than 100 thousand drams). At the same time, he denied rumors that the increase is due to a total reduction in the teaching staff. At the same time, the minister pointed out the problems of irrational distribution of wages, which affects both the salary and the quality of teachers' work. In particular, according to him, there are teachers who receive 25 thousand drams due to the fact that the position is divided between 3-4 teachers. "This is a direct blow to the quality of education. We are developing a procedure that will also allow help to resolve these issues," Harutyunyan said.
