ArmInfo. In the first half of 2019 the share of sugar imports to Armenia from Brazil again dominates - 81.1% of the total, against 57% for the same period a year earlier. Thus, according to the Customs Service of the Republic of Armenia, in the first half of 2019 Armenia imported 26.5 thousand tons of Brazilian sugar for $ 9.1 million.
The remaining volume was imported from Ukraine (17.5%), the Russian Federation (1.1%), Belarus (0.1%), as well as from Italy, France, Germany, Colombia, the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA, Poland, Mauritius, Switzerland .
In total, the volume of sugar imports to Armenia decreased in the first half of 2019 by 10.9% per annum (against a decline of 43.6% a year earlier), amounting to 32.7 thousand tons. In value terms, sugar imports decreased by 18.7% (against the 57.7% decline a year earlier), amounting to $ 11.8 million.
According to the source, during the reporting period, 1.5 tons of sugar for a total of $ 2.1 thousand was exported from Armenia. The United States acted as the main export market, with a meager share in Georgia, Italy, Iran, Germany.
It should be noted that according to previously available data, 99.9% of sugar are imported to Armenia by Alex Grig, which belongs to the family of Armenian oligarch Samvel Aleksanyan.
