ArmInfo.Armenia will adopt the state program for promoting the development of sheep and goat husbandry for 2019-2023. The corresponding draft decision was approved on September 19 at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Armenia.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy Avag Avanesyan, presenting the draft decision, this sphere of cattle breeding in Armenia is considered the most promising. In particular, sheep breeding in the republic has huge growth potential, which, judging by prices on the international market, can be realized in the coming years. According to the data as of mid-2019, the sector in this direction recorded a significant increase in export volumes, both through live sheep and lamb. The price of products also increased - from 2018 to June 2019 almost doubled - from $ 79 to $ 101.
According to the deputy minister, in the framework of the program, in order to increase the competitiveness of domestic sheep and goat husbandry, it is planned to provide affordable loans and compensate the costs of the project beneficiaries. So, when acquiring breeding animals with a maximum of 12%, the state is ready to subsidize 10%, for border settlements - all 12%. And in case of cattle acquisition, compensation of its cost up to 450 thousand drams (per 1 livestock) is planned.
Within the framework of the program, it is planned to purchase about 30 thousand heads of rams (from the age of 4 months - up to first-born sheep). As a result of the implementation of the program, it is expected that the annual production of meat will reach 3.5 billion drams, and milk - 0.5 billion drams.
