ArmInfo. The Armenian business entities need to set higher goals so that Armenian IT specialists serve the domestic market and the IT sector integrates into the country's economy. Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UITE), expressed this opinion in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent. "If the economy is not interested in high achievements, then it doesn't need IT," he stressed.
In this regard, Vardanyan noted that, in general, everything depends on what kind of activity the economic subject intends to develop and in what area to work. Figuratively speaking, the work of domestic specialists in the domestic market, according to him, is directly proportional to the tasks set by economic entities.
<If this is retail sale in kiosks, then, of course, there is no need for IT here. If we are talking about oligarchs, monopolists, in this case, IT is needed only to control the process of operation of enterprises. But if this is a serious company that is aimed at expanding in Armenia or entering international markets, then it is interested in integrating IT", he explained.
In addition, Vardanyan emphasized that as of today there is an acute shortage of IT specialists worldwide, the number of which reaches 3 million. In Armenia, according to the expert, this figure is about 2-3 thousand annually.
It should be noted that according to observers, almost 80% of the IT technology market in Armenia, in one way or another, is associated with external orders - outsourcing. The rest is web design and software adaptation. The annual IT market of Armenia is estimated at more than half a billion US dollars.
