ArmInfo.Armenia has proclaimed the field of information technology as the leading sector of the economy and will be glad to possible cooperation with Pixar Animation Studios. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on October 7 at a meeting with Catherine Sarafyan, senior vice president of Pixar, an American film studio working in the field of computer animation.
Pashinyan expressed hope that the representative of Pixar Animation Studios will establish activities in Armenia. He informed that at this stage in Armenia, as a result of legislative changes, a preferential tax policy is implemented in relation to companies in the ICT sector. At the same time, as the prime minister pointed out, Armenia is going to reduce the income tax from 36% to 23%, and this process will continue until a single scale of 20% is established. Armenia also mitigated the risks associated with systemic corruption, the head of the cabinet noted.
According to Pashinyan, Armenia has huge potential in the IT sphere. "Over the past 7 years, the IT sector of Armenia has grown 5 times," the head of government said.Katherine Sarafyan, in turn, noted that she was glad to be in Armenia for the 5th time. She noted the growth of the ICT sector in Armenia and the high professional level of Armenian specialists.
Note that Pixar Studio was founded in 1979 by George Lucas (then called and was the computer division of Lucasfilm) after the success of his Star Wars. Katherine Sarafyan is one of the keynote speakers at the WCIT 2019 international forum in Yerevan. Recall that according to the statistical data of the RA, in the first half of 2018, the revenue of the sphere ICT of Armenia amounted to 135.3 billion drams ($ 280.6 million), with ensuring annual growth of 7.6%. From 2010 to 2016, the turnover of the sphere IT in Armenia increased 5 times to $ 510 million, and the number of companies tripled.
