ArmInfo. Despite the excess of fundraising for used irrigation water, the situation in this area remains a concern. This was announced by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan on the eve of a meeting with the participation of heads of water-users companies.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, the minister emphasized that in 2019 compared to the previous year, 578 million drams more funds were raised, 1.7 billion drams were saved on electricity. Nevertheless, the minister expressed concern with the level of actual fees, emphasizing the importance of eliminating years of practice when the government is forced to pay off the debt of water companies every year due to inefficient work. He pointed out the need to change visions to address organizational issues, increase self-sufficiency and effective management of water resources.
The heads of water user companies informed the Minister about the difficulties with the organization of work and seasonal problems.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister gave a number of instructions and recommendations to the meeting participants on improving the situation and indicators.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the sphere of water use is one of the most corrupt in the country. "We will check the water user companies, see who stole how much, and then don't say that they filled the prisons. What a habit it is to sit still, steal, rob, and then demand money from the government. Why should the government pay?" - asked Pashinyan. He recalled the situation with irrigation water. In 2018, the government allocated 10 billion for subvention projects, but only 1.6 billion was spent, as the communities were unable to present programs, explaining this by a lack of resources, specialists, or other factors. Pashinyan promised to check "one by one, who drives which cars."
