ArmInfo."The long lasting decline registered in the Armenian agriculture has a number of reasons," Deputy Economy Minister Artak Kamalyan told reporters during a December 24 press conference.
In particular, according to him, this is primarily due to the fact that in the 21st century the level of dependence of the agricultural sector of Armenia on natural and climatic conditions continues to remain high. "This already indicates that we have undeveloped agriculture," he emphasized. In addition, the state still does not have a clear database regarding, among other things, the available areas of cultivated land, planted crops, their productivity, etc. Thus, as the deputy minister noted, the field, by inertia, one way or another, was supposed to demonstrate a downward trend. "We have rare farms that meet the requirements of the 21st century, and, unfortunately, a large number of farms of the 19th century," he said.
Kamalyan's forecasts regarding the dynamics of agriculture for 2019 are also devoid of positive. The deputy minister noted that, most likely, the volume of the sector following the results of the current year will amount to 97-98%. It should be noted that, according to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in January- September 2019, gross agricultural production showed a decline of 4.3%, amounting to about 600 billion drams. Over the same period a year earlier, the gross output of the agricultural sector of Armenia decreased by 4.6%.
