ArmInfo. The capacity of solar power plants in Armenia will be doubled. Garegin Baghramyan, chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) said about it at a press conference in Yerevan, on December 25.
According to him, the total capacity of all solar stations will increase from 110 to 210 megawatts. The head of the Commission recalled that by mid-2019, licenses for 100 megawatts had been issued, the construction of stations was already underway. "But we see that the business wants and can build new plants and produce electricity at affordable rates. Therefore, we have expanded the solar energy quota to 210 megawatts," Baghramyan said.
Earlier, ArmInfo reported on the intentions of the "Masdar" company from Abu Dhabi to attract $ 300 million in the construction of 500 MW solar power plants in Armenia. At the same time, it is planned to build photovoltaic power plants with a capacity of 200 MW, wind power plants of 200 MW and floating solar installations of 100 MW. More than 200 rivers and lakes can be used for floating solar programs. In Armenia, where the wind speed is 8.5 meters per second, there are favorable conditions for construction and a a wind power station. The country records an indicator of 1,720 kWh of solar energy per 1 sq. Km., in contrast to the average European figure of 1000 kWh.
To recall, construction of the Masrik-1 industrial-scale solar power plant in Armenia is currently underway, which is being built by the winning consortium Dutch company with Spanish roots Photowatio Renewable Ventures B.V and Spanish FSL Solar S.L. In order to implement the project, the consortium founded the Efarvi Masrik company in Armenia. Estimated cost of the investment program will exceed $ 55 million.
