ArmInfo. The European Union is investing 500 million euros to strengthen Armenia's energy security and diversification. Marta Kos, EU High Commissioner for Enlargement, stated this at a meeting with a group of Armenian reporters in Brussels, Armenpress reports.
A few days ago, a document was signed in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, according to which Armenia will receive support within the framework of the Caucasus Transmission Network project to improve energy infrastructure, strengthen energy security and diversification, and reduce dependence on external players. The European Union is collaborating with the German development bank KfW in this regard.
"In Tashkent, we signed the Caucasus Transmission Network project. It is worth 500 million. It is a 500 million investment to connect your energy system with the Georgian one, and we are already working on the Armenia-Turkey energy system. Why? So that you become less dependent on Russian energy. And this, you know, is also based on our experience. We have now special energy programs for Moldova, Ukraine, and also for us," Marta Kos clarified.
She added that she had asked Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, David Khudatyan, to present a list of priority programs in the context of ensuring overall connectivity. Marta Kos also expressed her willingness to assist in strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure to implement programs related to connectivity.
