ArmInfo.Instead of demonizing the mining industry, it is necessary to focus on solving the existing  serious institutional problems. This opinion was expressed by Armen Stepanyan, Director of Sustainable Development at the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) (CSO - Chief Sustainability Officer)  during a panel discussion on the topic of "A Bridge between COP-30 in Brazil and COP-17 in Armenia" within the framework of the Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Yerevan on May 15.

ArmInfo.Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Yevgeny Grabchak's statement about the completion of the feasibility study for the project to connect the energy systems of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran, marks an important stage in the development of a new transit electricity corridor called the  <North-South> corridor. Vahe Davtyan, expert in cross-border transport and energy projects, political scientist and Doctor of Sciences, expressed this viewpoint  on his Telegram page.

Armenian interbank foreign exchange market: dollar transactions increased from May 12 to May 16, 2025

ArmInfo.  In the Armenian interbank foreign exschange market, dollar transactions increased from May 12 to May 16, 2025, while ruble transactions decreased. Euro transactions have not been carried out for over two months. Specifically, the weekly trend for ruble transactions shifted from 64.3% growth to a 30.4% decrease, while the trend for dollar transactions changed from a 38.2% decrease to a 62% increase. As a result, the total weekly volume of dollar transactions once again surpassed ruble transactions by 1.7 times. The previous week the situation was reversed, with ruble transactions exceeding dollar  transactions by 1.3 times.

Armenian insurance market started to reduce compensation

ArmInfo.  Since 2025, the situation in the insurance market has started to change: premiums have increased, while compensation has decreased,  leading to a significant rise in profits. This is evidenced by data from the Financial Rating of Insurance Companies of Armenia as of 31.03.2025, prepared by ArmInfo IC based on published financial reports and  missing indicators requested from the insurance companies. In the first quarter of 2025, there was a notable slowdown in in the annual  decline of insurance premiums to 7%, exceeding 20.9 billion drams (over $ 53.4 million). Compensations also saw a shift in dynamics, with a slight 0.2% decrease, amounting to 10.3 billion drams ($ 26.2 million).  As a result, net profit experienced a significant turnaround, going from a 73% decline to an 82.3% growth, reaching 807.2 million drams ($ 2.1 million). The most impressive profit growth was provided by LIGA Insurance (3 times) and the new IC Efes (9 times). Both companies were able to eliminate losses and achieve a  substantial positive level, contributing to an overall increase   market profits. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2024,  premiums and compensations had opposite trends - a 19% decline in the former was accompanied by a 43% growth in the latter, as a result of which net profit fell by 73%.

ArmInfo. The net profit of the insurance sector of Armenia in the first quarter of 2025 increased by 82.3% per annum (against a 73% decline a year ago) and reached 807.2 million drams ($2.1 million). This was the result of a strong slowdown in the annual decline in premiums from 19% to 7% (20.9 billion drams or $53.4 million) and a reversal in the dynamics of compensation from a significant 43% growth towards a 0.2% decline (10.3 billion drams or $26.2 million). This is evidenced by the data of the Financial Rating of Insurance Companies of Armenia as of 31.03.2025, prepared by ArmInfo IC based on published financial reports and additional data requested from the insurance companies.

ArmInfo. The average market price of apartments in the regions of Armenia increased by 12.9% per  annum in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 162.3 thousand drams / 1 sq.m.

ArmInfo.  In the first quarter of 2025, the average market price of real estate in apartment buildings in Yerevan increased by 1.5%, reaching an average of 464.3 thousand drams / 1 sq. m.

Re-exporting and re-importing of diamonds and gold haven`t been successful, resulting in a decline in Armenia`s foreign trade turnover

ArmInfo.  In Armenia's foreign trade, transactions involving precious metals and stones have seen a decline since 2025, totaling 21.6% ($967.6 million)  in the first quarter, compared to 66.1% ($6.5 billion) a year earlier. This category of goods has been the main factor contributing to the deterioration in the annual dynamics of the country's foreign trade turnover, which dropped from 212% growth to a 54.2% decline. According to the RA Statistical Committee, in the first quarter of 2025, the share of imports and exports of precious metals and stones in the total trade turnover decreased to 15.7% and 31.3%,  respectively, compared to 59.4% and 74.2% in the same period last year.

ArmInfo. The information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Armenia grew by 9% annually in Q1 (compared to 17.3% growth the previous year), resulting in revenue of 284.1 billion drams ($718.5 million).

In Armenia, service sector experienced accelerated growth

ArmInfo. In Armenia, the service sector  saw a significant   annual growth rate increase from 5% to 11.5%, generating revenue of 865.3 drams ($2.2 billion) in the first quarter of 2025. According to  data from the RA Statistics Committee, in March alone, the revenue of the service sector also saw an  11.5% increase, reaching 309.2 billion drams ($787.1 million).

ArmInfo.n Q1 2025, Armenia's  trade sector revenue slowed in annual growth from 26.5% to 6%,  amounting to 1.31 trillion drams ($3.4 billion). According to  data from the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in March of this year, trade turnover in Armenia increased by 16.9%, reaching  521 billion drams ($1.3 billion).
